Doreen’s love of flowers and plants in her garden has enabled her to produce stunning works of art. Doreen’s paintings can be described as “Living Bouquets” in that she paints with unrestrained energy and emotion, capturing and retaining the life of her subjects.
Each flower is individually painted and placed in her painting to strengthen the composition as a whole, not to fill the canvas. Doreen’s unique painting style transforms blank canvasses into colourful luminous and gracefully painted bouquets.
Her compositions are not the typical ball or triangular still life arrangement, but are very often free form and appear to grow within the canvas as they would in nature. A former oil painter, her medium of choice is acrylic; a medium that she says gives her versatility and freedom while it allows her to work quickly and dramatically. Colours became more vibrant and the quick drying works to her advantage.
